‘Prachanda’ Government: In Nepal, Comrade Oli and Nepal Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba have made up their mind to overthrow the ‘Prachanda’ government, after which Pushpa Dahal Kamal Prachanda’s chair now seems to be in danger. Currently, instead of resigning from his post, Prachanda has said that he will face a vote of confidence in the Parliament, after which the political upheaval in Nepal has intensified.
Former Nepalese Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud said that Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML President and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli have reached an agreement on the new coalition government on Monday midnight. In this regard, both the parties have signed a power-sharing agreement to form a ‘national consensus government’. Saud, a member of the Nepali Congress, said that 78-year-old Deuba and 72-year-old Oli will become Prime Ministers in turns for the remaining term.
What is the majority figure in Nepal’s Parliament?
The largest party in the Nepal Parliament is the Nepali Congress, which currently has 89 MPs. CPN-UML has 78 seats. The majority figure for the 275-seat Nepal Parliament is 138. In such a situation, after adding both, there are 167 seats, in this way the ‘Prachanda’ government can fall very easily.
After four months, Oli changed his stance
After supporting Prachanda for four months, Oli has now decided to go with the Nepali Congress. A round of talks was also held between the two leaders on Saturday regarding the new political alliance. Under the new formula, Oli will become the Prime Minister of Nepal in the first phase of the remaining tenure. Saud said that both the leaders have agreed to take the post alternately for the remaining one and a half years of the tenure.
‘Prachanda’ will not resign from the post of Prime Minister
On the other hand, sources close to the CPN-Maoist Center said that Pushpa Dahal Kamal Prachanda is currently talking to CPN-UML chief Oli. Prachanda has said that at the moment, he is not going to resign from his post. A Nepal news agency reported that Prachanda is very worried after the closed-door meeting between Oli and Deuba. At present, he is talking to Oli.
