Paris 2024 Olympics Indian Athletics: There is good news for Indians regarding Paris Olympics 2024. Actually, the door of qualification for athletics events was closed on June 30, but the spirits of Indian players were still high. The “Road to Paris 2024” ranking released by World Athletics on Tuesday brought a shower of happiness in Indian athletics. Annu Rani and Jyoti Yarraji have increased India’s dominance in athletics for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Both these players have secured Olympic quota through world ranking. Apart from this, there are nine such Indian athletes who have managed to secure Olympic quota through Paris Athletics Ranking.
How do athletes get Olympic quota?
Under this ranking, players can get Olympic quota in two ways. The first way is to directly achieve the qualifying standard set for their event. The second way is to come within the cutoff in the Road to Paris ranking.
Indian javelin thrower Annu Rani was ranked 21st in the Road to Paris rankings. Only the top 32 players in this event will get a chance to participate in the Olympics. At the same time, Jyoti Yaraji is ranked 34th in 100 meter hurdles, but her ranking falls within the cutoff of 40 players. It is worth noting that both the players hold national records in their respective events.
Indian athletes also got Olympic quota in shot put
The series of good news did not end here. Two-time Asian champion in men’s shot put, Tajinderpal Singh Toor also secured his Olympic quota with a ranking of 23rd. Similarly, Asian Championship silver medalist in women’s shot put, Abha Khatua, also succeeded in securing a quota with a ranking of 23rd. It is worth noting that only the top 32 players have got quota in both the shot put events.
