The film is based on journalist, social reformer Karsandas Mulji. A petition was filed in the court objecting that the film hurt religious sentiments. The court had also stayed the release of the film. The moratorium was later lifted.
More than 50 lakh viewers watched ‘Maharaj’
According to the latest figures from Netflix, ‘Maharaj’ has been watched by more than 50 lakh people from June 24 to June 30. The film is number one in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Maldives. Apart from that, the film is being loved in Bahrain, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Kenya, Morocco and Europe.

The film stars Junaid Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sharwari Wagh in lead roles. The film is based on an incident in 1862. Based on journalist and social reformer Karsandas Mulji. Karsandan Mulji did important work for women’s rights and social reforms at that time. Mulji had written against the sexual exploitation of women by a Vaishnava sect leader. Against that, a claim for damages was filed against Mulji. The film is based on this incident. Junaid plays the role of journalist and social reformer Karsandas Mulji in the film. Ahlawat has played the role of Jadunathji Brijartanji Maharaj, the head of the Vallabhacharya sect.
