WPI Inflation: The impact of lower prices of food items in the month of December was not seen on the wholesale inflation rate. The wholesale inflation rate has increased to 0.73 percent in December, which was 0.26 percent in the previous month i.e. November 2023. This figure of wholesale inflation is the highest level in the last 9 months. The Commerce Ministry has released this data this afternoon. The wholesale inflation rate based index or wholesale inflation rate was 0.26 percent in November whereas in December 2022 last year it was 5.02 percent.
Wholesale inflation rate coming out of deflation zone
This is the second consecutive month when the wholesale inflation rate has come at a level above zero. Although year 2023If we look at the figures of -24 till now, it has been within the deflation zone i.e. -1.1 percent.
There has been a decline in the inflation rate of three main groups of WPI inflation rate. If we look at it on the basis of these then-
A decline of 2.1 percent has been recorded in the inflation rate of primary articles. (MOM)
A decline of 0.71 percent has been recorded in the Fuel and Power Price Index. (MOM)
A decline of 0.21 percent has been recorded in the price index of manufactured products. (MOM)
As a result, a decline of 0.85 percent has been recorded in all commodity indices compared to the previous month.
Decline in food inflation rate also seen
Compared to November, a decline of 1.78 percent has been seen in the prices of food items as compared to the previous month i.e. November. The main reason for this has been the reduction in the prices of vegetables, fruits, eggs, meat and fish and also the prices of pulses.
